Prayer-aware layovers

Halal Keys times your layovers around salah, so a connection becomes a chance to pray rather than a rush between gates. We flag airports with prayer rooms and musallas, and note where halal meals are available before you board. The result is a smoother journey that keeps worship and family comfort at the centre of every itinerary.

Frequently asked questions

Halal air travel, explained

There is no such thing as a certified halal airline, but there is such a thing as flying in a way that respects your faith. From halal meals and prayer on board to alcohol-free cabins and prayer-aware layovers, here is what actually matters, and how Halal Keys helps you plan around it.

Are any airlines halal-certified?

No airline is formally certified halal, and it is worth being cautious of any that claims to be. What actually matters in practice is halal catering, a respectful onboard environment and prayer-friendly scheduling.

We assess carriers on those practical signals rather than on a certificate that does not exist, so you can choose a flight that fits your family with confidence.

Requesting a halal meal

Many airlines serve halal or vegetarian meals as standard on routes to and from Muslim-majority countries, and most others accept a special halal meal request (often coded HNML) when you book, usually up to 24 hours before departure.

Confirm your meal preference in your booking and again at check-in. On short flights, packing your own halal snacks is a simple backup.

Praying during your flight

As a traveller you may shorten and combine prayers under the rules of travel. You can pray seated when standing is not safe or practical, and continue in the direction of travel where the qibla cannot be faced.

Planning your prayer times against the flight schedule before you fly makes this far easier, and our prayer-time tools help you work out when to pray on board or during a layover.

Prayer-aware layovers

A connection can be a chance to pray rather than a rush between gates. We favour layovers that leave room for salah and flag airports with a prayer room or musalla, so you know exactly where to go on arrival.

Where a connecting airport is known for family facilities and quiet prayer spaces, we note it, so longer connections work in your favour.

Alcohol and the onboard atmosphere

Alcohol is served on most international carriers. If a calmer, alcohol-free atmosphere matters to your family, several Gulf and Southeast Asian carriers offer a more suitable environment on many routes.

We note what to expect where we can, so you can weigh the onboard atmosphere alongside price and timings.

Travelling as a family

We prefer routing and airlines that make family seating straightforward, with sensible arrival times and airports that have family facilities such as nappy-change rooms and play areas.

Assign seats at the time of booking to keep children beside a parent, and choose arrival times that suit young travellers.
